The official FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2017 logo was revealed to the world via FIBA’s social media platforms on Wednesday.
The logo was designed to reflect three key elements – India, Basketball and the City of Bengaluru. They are represented through the tri-color (of the Indian flag) flames covering a basketball, with the Ashoka lion – the official Emblem of India – sitting on the peak of Vidhana Soudha, the Government of Karnataka building which is recognised across India and the world for its architecture.
The FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2017 will take place in Bengaluru, India from 23-29 July, 2017. Eight Division A teams will battle for the cup and bragging rights in Asia, while another eight teams will be hoping to clinch Division B and earn promotion to Division A for the 2019 edition.
Both Division A and Division B participating teams will be divided into two groups (A & B) of four teams each. Each team will play all the other teams in its own group a total of three games for each team.
The Competition System:
Group Phase
Eight (8) Division A participating Teams will be divided into two (2) group (A and B) of four (4) Teams each. Each Team will play all the other Teams in its own group (a total of three (3) games for each Team)
All four (4) Teams in each group will then advance to the Divison A Quarter-Finals.
A total of twelve (12) games will be played in the Division A Group Phase.
Final Phase
QUARTER-FINALS
The Quarter-Finals games will be decided on the ranking of the participating Teams in the Group Phase (i.e. 1st in Group A will play against 4th in Group B0
Game 13: A1 v B4
Game 14: A2 v B3
Game 15: A3 v B2
Game 16: A4 v B1
The four (4) winners advance to the Semi-Finals and the four (4) go on to play 5-8 Classification Games.
CLASSIFICATION 5-8
Game 17: Loser of Game 13 v Loser of Game 15
Game 18: Loser of Game 14 v Loser of Game 16
The two (2) winners advance to play 5-6 Classification Game, while the two (2) losers play 7-8 Classification Game
SEMI-FINALS
The four (4) Teams play as follows:
