Kolkata : The Indian team would regain the services of the strength and fitness coach Shankar Basu, for the upcoming Champions Trophy slated to begin on the 1st of June in England and Wales. He had earlier taken a break from the side owing to family and business issues after India’s fifth test against England in Chennai last year.
He would however be available to resume his duties in the upcoming campaigns involving the Indian team.
Sportstar reports that Indian skipper Virat Kohli and head coach Anil Kumble wanted Basu’s return to the team.
More so, they have several away tournaments coming up after the Champions Trophy and the BCCI needs someone of his calibre to help the players maintain proper fitness.
Basu started his work with the Indian team in 2015. It is he, who introduced the latest methods like Dexa Scan, load monitoring app and Yo Yo training. It was under his guidance that the Indian stars like Umesh Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin and Bhuvneshwar Kumar now have improved fitness levels.
Anand Date came in as Basu’s replacement and was with the Indian team during the ODI and T20 series against England, the one-off Test match against Bangladesh and during the India – Australia series.
Basu also said that he has worked with Virat Kohli about the latest power training techniques.
He had earlier said that he wanted to increase the fitness level of the entire team
“I want to take it to the next level” said the man.
The Indian team is one of those teams in international cricket which boasts of fit and athletic players. Names like Virat Kohli, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and many others in the team have set an example as to how to remain fit and healthy and continue playing quality cricket. Basu’s return to the team would only help them attain greater heights in maintaining proper fitness in such an important tournament as the Champions Trophy.
