Stan Wawrinka
Form, fitness and recent performances do not help Wawrinka’s chances at Roland Garros this year. But history and his mastery on the clay make it difficult to write him off at Paris.
The 2015 Champion and 2017 finalist at Roland Garros has many sweet memories at Court Philippe Chatrier. Stan’s best moment was when he crushed an in form Novak Djokovic in the 2015 French Open final.

This year the task that awaits Wawrinka is immense. But he is certainly the man to rise to the occasion. Stan is one of the only 3 players who managed to win the French Open title in Nadal’s Era.
His barrage of shots make him a dangerous clay court opponent especially his powerful backhand.
The 3 time Grand Slam Champion would certainly want to give it a last go.
Jaun Martin Del Potro
Ten years ago in 2009, Del Potro was a set away from defeating Roger Federer for a place in the French Open final. He again reached the semifinals in 2018, only to be crushed out in straight sets by an inspired Rafa Nadal.
The Argentine though a powerhouse of talent has been plagued by injuries throughout his career. His career resurge in 2018 was also stopped by knee injury.

Del Potro however has managed to come back strong on clay this year. He grilled Novak Djokovic in the Rome Quarterfinal and even had match points but went to lose. But the performance said a lot about the Gritty 2009 US Open Champion.
Del Potro is a feared opponent by everybody at the ATP and if his health holds up, the Argentine could go far in this year’s French Open.
Alexander Zverev
Last year Zverev came to Paris as one of the 3 top favorites. The year 2019 has however been a sad story so far for the 2018 ATP Finals Champion. The German is struggling to put it all together in his game.

He however continues to search for form and has already powered into the finals at Geneva. He could come to Paris with renewed confidence if he manages to lift this Geneva title.
With Ivan Lendl on his side as a Coach, Zverev would be hungry to improve his Grand Slam showing this year at Roland Garros.
Roger Federer
Federer’s comeback to clay was cut short by the leg injury in Rome. Yet the 2009 French Open Champion would be satisfied by his showing in both Rome and Madrid. The Swiss reached the Quarters at both the events.
Roger comes to Paris first time since 2015. He won the title 10 years ago to complete the Career Grand Slam. He has also been a 4 time runner up here, losing all of them to a certain Rafael Nadal.

The Swiss Maestro has not managed to reach last 4 of a Grand Slam since his win in Australia in 2018. Federer would like to reverse that in Paris. He certainly has the game and the grit to go deep.
