3. Nadal Vs Medvedev: US Open Final
The 2019 US Open final promised a lot even before start. Rafa Nadal was looking to take his Grand Slam count to 19, one shy of Federer’s 20. On the other side was Daniil Medvedev, a raging force of nature from Russia, looking to become the 1st Grand Slam Champion born in 1990s.
The 1st and 2nd set went to the Spaniard with relative ease of 7-5 and 6-3. As Nadal began to smell the trophy, Medvedev had other ideas. He rose back from the ashes to claim the next 2 sets. The match would go to a deciding 5th, with the Russian carrying all the momentum.
Nadal appeared nervous perhaps now feeling the threat Medvedev to bring to his ambitions. However, the Spaniard played some extraordinary tennis to reach 5-2 and serve for the title. More drama was in store with Medvedev getting 1 break back and then holding to take the score to 5-4.
Nadal now had one more chance to serve for the set. Medvedev showed so much maturity for his age and was able to take the game to deuce. Rafa however held his nerve and his serve to close out the match. He took a great leap in the Grand Slam leader board taking his tally to 19.
2. Thiem Vs Djokovic: French Open Semifinal
This was the battle of the battle of the heavyweights for a ticket in the Roland Garros 2019 final. Dominic Thiem was looking for his 3rd consecutive at the French Open. Standing In his way was the World Number 1 Novak Djokovic who was looking for his 4th consecutive Grand Slam.
Thiem took the 1st set 6-2, with Djokovic coming back equally strong at taking the 2nd set 6-3. The 3rd and 4th sets were tighter with each player winning the 7-5. It now came to a 1 set shootout for the entry to the final.

The level from both players reached to impossible heights with nobody giving the other an inch. However, at 6-5 Djokovic lost bit of his concentration and Thiem raised his game further. The Serb was broken the Thiem booked his ticket to face Rafa Nadal in the 3rd continuous Roland Garros final.
1. Djokovic Vs Federer; Wimbledon Final
Wimbledon has always witnessed history and records being made and tumbled. Federer and Djokovic have undoubtedly been 2 best grass court players in the last 2 decades. When they met in the final, it was always going to be an all out battle. Federer was looking for Grand Slam number 21 and Novak Djokovic was chasing his 16th Major trophy.
Djokovic took the tightly contested 1st set in a tie breaker. Federer bounced back taking the 2nd set in dominant fashion with a score of 6-1. The 3rd set went to a tie break again. Federer had his chances, only to throw them away and Novak who did not appear fully convincing took the set.
Federer raised his game again in the 4th set. He broke the Djokovic serve and took the set 6-4. The 5th set was a fitting end to this great finale. Federer appeared to be the better player from the start of the final set. He broke the Djokovic serve midway and now served for the championship with 2 match points.
The scene for the drama was set and Djokovic showed everybody why his returns are feared. Riding on Federer’s nervousness, the Serb snatched not only 2 match points from the Swiss ace but also broke his serve.
From here each one appeared ruthless on serve. It came to the tie breaker at 12- 12, the 1st one in Wimbledon finals history, owing to a rule change last year. Djokovic was in control throughout the tie breaker and clinched it 7-3. He had now raised his 5th Wimbledon trophy and defeated Federer thrice at Wimbledon finals. The match might have been forgetful to Federer but never will be forgotten in history of tennis.
