After inclusion of Matt Prior into the MCC Honorary Life members, the next addition is Daniel Vettori. MCC awarded Daniel for his contributions to International cricket as a New Zealand all-rounder. In a ceremony, during the announcement, the MCC Head of Cricket, John Stephenson praised Daniel as one of the greatest New Zealand cricketers of all time and a very worthy MCC Honorary Life Member.
“He joins a very impressive list of Honorary Life Members from New Zealand and is fully deserving of his place alongside them,”
he further added.
Daniel Luca Vettori has a stupendous career which he finished as the most capped New Zealand Cricketer, and 24th New Zealander to be added onto this list. Daniel started his international career with test matches in 1997 against England, and stays as the second highest wicket taker for New Zealand in tests with 362 victims, only behind Sir Richard Hadlee.
Daniel Vettori, elated with the praise and honor, said:
“I was very humbled to be offered Honorary Life Membership of MCC, and was only too pleased to accept it. I always thoroughly enjoyed playing at Lord’s, and have particularly fond memories of my last two appearances there – the Test against England when I got on the Honours Board in 2008 and of course the MCC v Rest of the World match the summer before last. It is a very special place and MCC is a very special Club which I’m delighted to now be a part of.”
