Yogeshwar Dutt faces dilemma as his chances to play in the second edition of Pro Wrestling League (PWL), starting December 15th, seems bleak.
Representing the Haryana franchise last year, the London Olympic bronze medallist may not be seen this year in PWL, as his wedding is scheduled in January next year.
Yogeshwar exclaimed his sorrow to PTI-
“It is very difficult for me to be a part of PWL as the League will take place in December and my wedding is in January. Although I have still not ruled it out completely, it seems unlikely”.
“Yes, I am fit and train everyday. It is only because of the fact that my wedding date so near to the competition that it might be a little difficult for me to be a part of the League,” Yogeshwar commented on his training.
The 33-year-old grappler did a marvelous job in the first year of PWL, last year. Even though he was ruled out midway, his initial efforts paved the way to the finals, where Haryana lost to Mumbai.
He was last seen performing in the Rio Games, which didn’t portray his full valour, as he lost in the inertial rounds of the tournament after failing his qualification bout in the men’s 65kg freestyle category.
The sources in the organising committee of PWL elicited their ardent attempts of getting Yogeshwar on board.
“Because of his wedding, Yogeshwar may not be able to take part in the competition but we are in talks with him and are trying our best to bring him on board as he is one of the most popular wrestlers in the country,” claimed the sources.
Sushil Kumar, India’s double-Olympic medallist, wants to seek opportunity in international platforms such as the WWE and step into the professional arena, bidding adieu to the small scale ones. He too will be seen refraining from this year’s PWL.
With the loss of such eminent personalities from the league, Narsingh Yadav too will not be present for PWL’s second year, as he is serving his four year ban which was imposed on him by World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) after he tested positive for banned substance and was unable to plead not-guilty.
