Kolkata: Seasoned Indian pacer Jhulan Goswami surpassed Cathryn Fitzpatrick of Australia to become the leading wicket taker in women’s ODI cricket. Goswami displayed exemplary pace bowling skills as her figures of 3/20 in 7.3 overs helped wrap up the South African women’s innings on 119 in 39.3 overs and helped India’s register of famous win in the Women’s Quadrangular Series in Potchefstroom.
Jhulan Goswami now has 181 scalps in 153 matches surpassing a tally of 180 wickets by Fitzpatrick. In Test cricket, she has taken 40 wickets and in T20’s the number rises up to 50. In total, she now has 271 wickets in all the international cricket she has played this far.
After dismissing Nadine de Klerk and Masabata Klaas, she achieved this remarkable feat after she got the wicket of Raisibe Ntozakhe. Her terrific achievement received a lot of praises from all over the world.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India praised her milestone on Twitter saying, “She keeps breaking records & this is the one to cherish. India’s Jhulan Goswami is now the leading wicket taker (181) in Women’s ODIs.”
The lanky pacer from Bengal made her debut as an 18- year old in 2002, against England women and since then, she has been the face of inspiration for many women in the country to take up the sport.
She also led India in a total of 25 ODI’s from 2008-2011 and has also played a total of 10 test matches, 60 T20’s and 153 ODI’s.
The 34-year old has a total of two five-wicket hauls in her career with her best figures being, 6/31. At present, she is the third ranked ODI bowler in the ICC rankings.
In 2007, she was honoured with the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year award, and in 2010, she won the Arjuna Award. In 2012, she was honoured with the Padma Shri. Here’s extending our wishes and congratulations to Jhulan Goswami for her brilliant achievement.
