Today we discuss about the nine cricketers who represent West Indies players in IPL 2021. West Indies Cricketers are known to bring ruthless power hitting to T20 leagues. While some of these were retained by their IPL franchises, some were traded and a few went through the auctions this year as they represent the West Indies players in IPL 2021. Here we detail who they are:
Shimron Hetmyer
1996 born Guyanese Cricketer Shimron Odilon Hetmyer has recently scored 3 fifty plus scores for Guyana Amazon Warriors in Caribbean Premier League 2020 and he would expect the same form to get him games in the Indian Premier League as well. Hetmyer has been part of Delhi Capitals and scored 185 runs in IPL 2020 with 45 as his highest score.
The left handed explosive batsman would be among the West Indies players in IPL 2021, but his chances of getting matches for his team isn’t that great as he would be fighting against the likes of Steve Smith & Chris Woakes for one overseas player slot in the playing XI. The other three spots will be picked by Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje & Marcus Stoinis, the three star performers of the Delhi team.
Nicholas Pooran (WK)
1995 born Trinidadian Wicket-keeper batsman Nicholas Pooran has recently scored 245 runs including a hundred and a fifty for Guyana Amazon Warriors in Caribbean Premier League 2020 and he would expect the same form to get him games in the Indian Premier League as well, though his chances of playing as a wicket-keeper batsman is meek with the team being led by a wicket-keeper batsman KL Rahul.
Fabian Allen
1995 born Jamaican Cricketer Fabian Allen was part of the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in Caribbean Premier League, but couldn’t be part of the 2020 edition of the tournament. Allen will be part of Punjab Kings this season after he was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad prior to the auction. The all-rounder is expecting some games come his way so he could be among the West Indies players in IPL 2021.
Jason Holder
1991 born Barbadian Cricketer Jason Omar Holder picked 14 wickets for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2020 and scored 66 runs from the season. He scored 192 runs & picked 10 wickets for Barbados Tridents in CPL T20 in 2020. Holder is among the important players for the David Warner side but limit of overseas players is something which hasn’t helped this all-rounder.
The middle order batsman & seamer would be among the West Indies players in IPL 2021, but his chances of getting matches for his team will depend on the selection of best three among Kane Williamson, Rashid Khan, Jonny Bairstow & Jason Holder, with David Warner getting auto-selected as a captain and lead scorer of the team.
Andre Russell
1988 born Jamaican Cricketer Andre Dwayne Russell is among the key performers for Kolkata Knight Riders, so much that his poor season means a poor season for the entire team. Russell balances the team as a lower order batsman and 5th bowler. The explosive batsman would be among the West Indies players in IPL 2021.
Sunil Narine
1988 born Trinidadian Cricketer Sunil Philip Narine scored 121 runs and took 5 wickets for KKR in IPL 2020. The Mystery Spinner and left hander had slightly better numbers in CPL 2020. Narine would continue to be part of KKR as he would feature among the West Indies players in IPL 2021.
Dwayne Bravo
1983 born Trinidadian All-rounder Dwayne John Bravo has been an integral part of triple champions Chennai Super Kings and his performances have won some crucial matches for the franchise. The middle order batsman & death bowler would be among the West Indies players in IPL 2021.
Kieron Pollard
1983 born Trinidadian All-rounder Dwayne John Bravo has been an integral part of five times champions Mumbai Indians and his performances have helped the team a lot in title wins. The middle order batsman & death bowler would be among the West Indies players in IPL 2021.
Chris Gayle
1979 born Jamaican Cricketer Christopher Henry Gayle is perhaps the most prolific scorer of T20 cricket. He is like a storm that hits opposition bowlers and destroys them. The left handed explosive batsman would be among the West Indies players in Indian Premier League 2021, but age and fitness might keep him limited to match numbers. His Indian Premier League career is an exhibition of ruthless hitting and he can his far and wide even at this age.
Phase 2 in UAE, Withdrawals and Replacements:
Due to corona outbreak in India, the season was stopped post Match #29 and all the remaining matches were shifted to be held during September-October at UAE. With the changes in season schedules, there were withdrawals and new additions to the squads. Evin Lewis, Sherfane Rutherford & Oshane Thomas would come in for Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow & Ben Stokes.
These were the 12 West Indies Cricketers in IPL 2021 season. This is it for today! Hope your liked the content; don’t forget to put in your thoughts & questions as comments.
