Kolkata: Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has always been a fearless character on the field. From big innings to small cameos, the right handed hard hitting batsman never failed to entertain his fans. Even after he has called it quit on his international career, his witty and entertaining one-liners on Twitter have drawn the attention of many across the globe and some have even made him an undisputed king of social media when it comes to his tweets.
The 38- year old has now seemed to carry on being his witty self as he sent a two-line application for the post of the Indian coach. According to reports from the Indian Express, the application read, “mentor and a coach of Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League and has played with all these (Indian) boys before.”
In recent times, there has been a lot of conflict and confusion in the Indian team regarding alleged disputes between head coach Anil Kumble and skipper Virat Kohli. The BCCI earlier had advertised the post inviting applications for the same and Virender Sehwag, after declining to submit his application for the same has done so, in a very unique and witty manner.
But the BCCI seems to not have taken a liking to this unique application and has asked the former cricketer to submit a proper application along with his resume. The board has however excused Sehwag of this mistake considering the fact that it was his first application to a post of such a high level.
Other than current coach Anil Kumble and Sehwag, the other applicants for the job are former Sri Lanka coach Tom Moody, Afghanistan coach Lalchand Rajput, Dodda Ganesh and Englishman Richard Pybus. Australian Craig McDermott’s application wouldn’t be accepted as it came after the deadline.
The three member Cricket Advisory Committee comprising legends, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, has been entrusted with the duties of selecting the next candidate for the job.
But, despite receiving six applications for the job, a BCCI official close to the Committee of Administrators said that establishment of peaceful relations between Kohli and Kumble would be the best option for Indian cricket going forward into the future.
“While it is very difficult to comment from the outside, it looks like the ideal situation would be Kohli and Kumble burying the hatchet. But let’s see if that is a possibility” said the official.
