New Delhi: Besides being honoured with the ICC Cricketer of the Year and the ICC ODI Cricketer of Year, Indian skipper Virat Kohli was also named the captain of both the ICC Test and ODI teams for 2017 by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Kohli has had a wonderful run with the bat in the qualification period from September 21, 2016 to the end of 2017 but he has also showcased good captaincy skills as he led the Indian team to the number one and two positions in Test and ODI rankings respectively.
The 29-year-old, for the first time has featured in the ICC Test team of the Year. But this is his fourth time in the ICC ODI Team as he had earlier featured in the team in the years 2012, 2014 and 2016.
Kohli is also one of the four-Australia’s David Warner, England’s Ben Stokes’ and South Africa’s Quinton De Kock to feature in both the Test and ODI team of the Year.
Warner, Kohli, De Kock, AB de Villiers, Mitchell Starc and Rohit Sharma have made it to ICC’s ODI team for the second consecutive year. This is also the seventh time in eight years that de Villiers has made it to the ODI team.
Three South Africans in the form of Dean Elgar, Quinton de Kock and Kagiso Rabada feature in the ICC Test team of the Year. From Australia, it is skipper Steve Smith, deputy Warner and Starc who have made it to the XI. There are three Indians in the list as well in Ravichandran Ashwin, skipper Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara while from England, two have made it to the playing XI-Ben Stokes and James Anderson.
Players from a total of seven countries have made it to the ODI team where the only players from their countries are-Rashid Khan (Afghanistan), Warner (Australia), Trent Boult (New Zealand)
and Stokes (England). Three Indians in Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah feature in the XI. From Pakistan (Babar Azam and Hasan Ali) and South Africa (de Kock and de Villiers) two players each have made it to the team.
