The Summer Olympic & Paralympic Games 2020 had a major announcement today. The Summer Games at Tokyo revealed their Tokyo 2020 Games Motto, “United by Emotion”. The Motto highlights the power of sport to bring together people from diverse backgrounds of every kind. Sport allows these people to connect and celebrate in a way that reaches beyond the differences.
Why United by Emotion?
Tokyo 2020 wishes to share a certain ideas and concepts with the world. While reflecting the essential values of the Games, this Motto incorporates a specific and timely message embracing diversity. Not only that it incorporates message reflecting the 2020 zeitgeist in the urban environment of Tokyo.
The Olympic Games will not only bring together athletes from across the globe, but also millions of spectators and media-persons. In addition, the Tokyo 2020 Games will inspire countless new face-to-face encounters among those participating in and watching events. The Games will provide a time and a place for people from different nationalities, ethnicity, races, genders, cultures to connect and enjoy. This will also include those with and without impairments, in order to meet and know each other, to look beyond their differences.
Sports’ Power to Unite
The Sports give people the opportunity to experience their emotions and passions. Tokyo 2020 Games will not only allow people to witness the courage and competitive spirit but also to voice their support. Spectators, known or unknown to each others, will come together and learn unity through sports. This is precisely the power of sport – the power to unite the world. Tokyo 2020, through their motto, intends to depict “United by Emotion”.
The Games Motto sums up the Games vision, by capturing the essence of the ideas and concepts, the host city wishes to share with the world. “United by Emotion” expresses the hope of unity against diversity. The spectators, volunteers, and athletes from 200+ National Olympic Committees as well as the Refugee Olympic Team will gather in Tokyo this summer. In addition to these, billions will be glued to television and online across the globe, such is this power to unite.
The time when the world focuses on Tokyo to share the excitement of the Games will soon be upon us. Tokyo 2020 will use their Motto throughout the build-up to illuminate the host city and Game venues. Tokyo 2020 has also created a concept video featuring Japanese Tennis star Naomi Osaka to share the key messages behind the Tokyo 2020 Games Motto with the world.
Public Event at the TOKYO SKYTREE
The TOKYO SKYTREE will showcase laser mapping based depiction of Tokyo 2020 Games Motto. On 17 February, special lighting will alternate every 60 minutes between the symbolic Olympic and the Paralympic colors. While the Olympic colors are blue, yellow, deep purple, green and red, Paralympic colors are red, blue and green.
TOKYO SKYTREE is a broadcasting and observation tower, specifically created for the Games. The laser based projections will be visible from miles around. It will share the underlying message of the motto with Tokyo residents and visitors.
