Kolkata: India and UP cricketer Suresh Raina escaped a major accident as one of the tyres of the Range Rover he was travelling in, burst near Etawah in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The left-hander, who is currently participating in the Duleep Trophy was travelling from Ghaziabad to Kanpur and his journey was halted momentarily when one of the rear tyres of the Range Rover SUV burst near Friend’s colony.
Had the car been in high speed, the consequences could have been severe, the police said.
Raina would be seen leading India Blue at the Green Park Stadium on Wednesday. The police then arranged for another vehicle to helped him reach Kanpur in another vehicle.
Raina’s car was without a spare tyre as a result of which he had to remain stranded for some time before the police was informed by the local residents about the incident.
DSP Rajesh Kumar Singh said that Raina was driving when the incident happened. The left-hander currently is trying to stage a comeback into the national team and thus the Duleep Trophy is so very important to him.
He has been a crucial part of India’s limited overs’ teams over the years and despite being ignored for the India-Sri Lanka series, the southpaw would hope to bounce back and return to the scheme of things for the Indian team pretty soon.
