New Delhi: Making or breaking records in cricket has become pretty much of a habit nowadays and in a stupendous feat, 20-year-old South African batsman Shane Dadswell smashed a whopping 490 runs for his club NWU Pukke against Potch Dorp 1st in a 50-over match.
Dadswell, who celebrated his 20th birthday hit the bowlers all around the park as he took just 151 deliveries to get to this huge score. He hit a total of 57 sixes and 27 fours in this huge knock and the next best score in his team was by his teammate Ruan Haasbroek, who scored 104 of just 52 deliveries with 12 fours and six sixes to help NWE Pukke end up with a massive 677/3 in their 50 overs.
However, he wasn’t done yet as he bowled a maiden over and scalped two wickets conceding only 32 runs in seven overs.
Eventually, Potch Dorp 1st could muster only 290/9 in their chase as they lost that match by a huge margin of 387 runs. Four bowlers among the six used, were bludgeoned for over hundred runs. Also all six bowlers had economy rates above 10 and the destructive Dadswell was finally dismissed by Cobus Crowther.
Ros Brodie, who is a production assistant from Johannesburg, broke the news on Twitter as she tweeted, “Insane batting in a 50-over club match in Potch. Is this ground the size of a postage stamp? And if CricInfo is to be believed, today is Dadswell’s 20th birthday.”
