Kolkata: Skipper Jiwanjot Singh led from the front with a double hundred as Punjab piled up a mammoth 635 runs in the first innings on the second day of their clash against Goa in Porvorim on Wednesday.
The marathon 238-run knock from Singh consisted of 30 fours and one six which completely deflated the Goa bowling attack. Despite getting off to a good start after dismissing Manan Vohra for a duck with no run on the board, the Goa bowlers couldn’t capitalise on the start as Singh and Uday Kaul stitched a 160-run stand that established Punjab’s authority over the match.
The Punjab skipper then went on to share a huge 260-run partnership with Anmolpreet Singh (113) as the Goa bowlers couldn’t find an answer to the run fest. Gurkeerat Singh also made a brilliant century (114) as Punjab continued to pile on the misery on Goa.
Shadab Jakati was their best bowler and although he was taken for runs, his figures of 5/165 is impressive considering the fact that no other single bowler could inflict much damage to the opposition.
In reply, Goa reached to 94/1 with skipper SK Kamat (32 n.o) and Sumiran Amonkar (30) who was dismissed by Siddharth Kaul.
Hanuma Vihari scored a magnificent 300 against Odisha to help Andhra Pradesh put up a mammoth 584/5 in their first innings.
