Profile | Vijender Singh is a former Indian International amateur Boxer and currently a professional boxer, who represents India internationally since 2004. Vijender is also an Indian politician and currently, won the WBO Middleweight Championships in both the Asia Pacific and the Oriental Super competitions. He went to the Bhiwani Boxing Club and went under the strict instruction of Indian national boxing coach Jagdish Singh. He appeared in some national-level competition from his native place and began his international career with the Athens Summer Olympics in 2004. Vijender couldn’t taste victory in his first appearance and go for the other international championships for fulfilling his dream of winning medals. In 2006 Commonwealth Games, Vijender won a silver medal and a bronze medal in the Asian Games Championship. In 2007, he bagged a silver medal at the Asian Championship in middleweight event and had to wait for 1 more year for his Olympic dream. In the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, Vijender won a bronze medal and became the first Indian boxer to do so. After this, he became one of the most appreciated sportspersons in India in an instant and grabbed numerous honors for his Olympic win. He is no-longer amateur boxer from 2016 Olympics and bid his men’s amateur career goodbye with this selection. He married Archana Singh in 2011 and the couple has one son.
