Profile | Rahul Dravid is a legendary international cricketer of India who served Indian National Cricket Team from 1996 to 2012. He has played as an occasional wicketkeeper of the team and provided his captaincy as well for a couple of years. Dravid is one of the greatest batsmen of all time, who currently elected as the Overseas Batting consultant of the Indian National team. He is also the head coach for the Under19 Indian squad and ‘A’ team. He started playing cricket at the age of 12 and began professional cricket career since his teenage with the Indian Under 15 team. He has also played for the U-17 and U-19 teams during his domestic days before got selected for the national team. His consistent performance in domestic career soon led him to the door of Indian national cricket team in 1994. However, the team didn’t use him at that time and he had to wait for 2 more years for his international debut. In April 1996, Dravid began his international career through an ODI match against Sri Lanka and test debut in June in the same following year. Dravid proved himself a much better beginner in the test format than ODIs. Since then he had been one of the best batsmen in the history of Indian cricket with his dependable consistency. It is his steady performances in the international cricket that helped him to won the nickname of ‘Mr. Dependable’ for his team. He is a calm yet defensive batsman, who mostly praised for his balancing techniques and the natural instinct of playing shots. He was one of the most popular batsmen of his time and earned a huge number of fan-following not only in India but, from across the world. Apart from a brilliant cricketer, he is also a great human being who has established a sports foundation institute name GoSports to give support to the emerging athletes of India. He was recently appointed the Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy. |
