Profile | Pullela Gopichand is an Indian former badminton player, who represented India internationally from 1991 to 2001. He is one of the greatest professional badminton players of India and the second Indian to win the All England Open Badminton Championship title in his career. He has had a glorious career as a Badminton Player and even more splendid career after his retirement from the international as a national coach. Gopichand is a former silver medalist at the Commonwealth Games and currently, works as the proud trainer of some recent badminton stars like PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, Srikanth Kidambi, etc. He started playing badminton at the age of 10 and become an expert at the junior level within 13. He won his first-ever badminton Championship title in 1996 and began his winning trail till 2000 with the five consecutive wins. He bagged his first singles title in 1989 at the National Championship held in Goa as an emerging international badminton star. In 2001, he made history by winning the AEOBC and became the second Indian international player to achieve that feat. He established the Gopichand Badminton Academy in 2003 that inspires numerous promising new talents of this country, who need the right backup for their career.
