Profile | Mashrafe Mortaza is a Bangladeshi International cricketer, who plays for the Bangladesh national cricket team since 2001. He is the current captain of the Bangladeshi ODI team and appears in all formats of the game. Mashrafe Mortaza also has captained the T20I team of Bangladesh for a couple of years and one test match in his long career graph. Apart from being a cricketer, Mashrafe is also a politician and a permanent member of the Parliament of Bangladesh from Narali-2. He is a right-armed medium-fast bowler and occasionally bats as a right-handed lower-order batsman. Mashrafe is regarded as one of the talented Bangladeshi fast bowlers of all time with a great speed of 145 km/h. Mortaza has a short career graph in the domestic circuit, where has played only 9 first-class matches and a few List-A matches in total. It was his noticeable success rate in Under-19 tournaments that gave Mashrafe direct entry to the national team of Bangladesh in 2001. The most surprising part is that Mashrafe hadn’t played a single first-class match before he was entered in the national squad. He first represented the First-class team of Bangladesh Khulna Division in 2002, after making his international debut in all formats. He contains some unique ability to shock the batsmen with his high-speed bowling and sheer pace skill. He has played several Super League matches for BSL, apart from international tournaments. This talented Bangladeshi bowler has faced some hampering experiences in his career due to his several injuries. According to the report, Mashrafe Mortaza has gone through almost ten operations only on his knee and ankles. He also took some matches-off due to his continuous back-injuries in 2009. Mashrafe Mortaza announced his retirement from T20I format in 2017 due to these various injury issues. He hasn’t declared an official retirement from test format yet; however, Mortaza appears only in ODI formats of the game in recent times.
