Today we discuss about the ten cricketers who represent New Zealand players in IPL 2021. Most of these Cricketers have been playing T20 leagues across the globe and are experienced as well as important members of their franchise teams. While some of these were retained by their IPL franchises, some were traded and a few went through the auctions this year as they represent the New Zealand players in IPL 2021. Here we detail who they are:
Tim Seifert
1994 born New Zealand Wicket-keeper batsman was part of the Trinbago Knight Riders in Caribbean Premier League 2020 and he was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders during the auctions for this season. Seifert will thus be among the New Zealand Players in IPL 2021, though it is still to be seen whether he gets a game or not in the season.
The presence of a seasoned wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik has been the serious challenge that Seifert faces and he would like to show some prowess in the nets to be picked as a part of the playing XI. Tim has been playing with the national cricket team of New Zealand since 2018 and has a few 50 plus scores to his credit.
Mitchell Santner
1992 born New Zealand Bowling All-Rounder was part of the Barbados Tridents in Caribbean Premier League 2020 and he scored 145 runs from 9 matches & 8 wickets from 8 times he bowled in a match. Santner has been playing for Chennai Super Kings in Indian Premier League since 2019 edition when he was picked by the team management at just 50 Lacs Indian Rupees.
Mitchell Santner will thus be among the New Zealand Players in IPL 2021, though it is still to be seen whether he gets a game or not in the season as the MS Dhoni side wouldn’t give him many matches in the two edition he has played so far. The limit of 4 overseas cricketers is something which is stopping Santner from being a part of the playing XI.
Adam Milne
1992 born New Zealand Pace bowler was part of the Sydney Thunder in Big Bash League 2020 though he would have many wickets in the season. Milne was picked by Mumbai Indians during the auctions for this season. It is though still to be seen if he would be their frontline seamer or would be their third seamer who would be sharing the role with Nathan Coulter-Nile. Anyhow he will be among the New Zealand Players in IPL 2021. The tournament winning pair of Boult & Bumrah will be the one leading the bowling unit. Adam was part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore for the two season but wouldn’t get many matches to his credit.
James Neesham
1994 born New Zealand All-rounder was part of the Edmonton Royals in GT20 Canada. Neesham has played in Indian Premier League previously as he was part of the Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2014 and was a member of Kings XI Punjab from 2015 onward. Jimmy Neesham has picked 3 wickets and scored 123 in GT20 Canada while his IPL stats aren’t worth much recall. The Allrounder was picked by Mumbai Indians at this season’s auction and will thus be among the New Zealand Players in IPL 2021. The team boasts of allrounders like Keiron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, so it will be interesting to see how he fits into the playing XI.
Kyle Jamieson
1994 born New Zealand Bowling All-rounder is seeking his debut to the T20 league format as he was picked by the Virat Kohli side during the auctions to be part of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s squad for season 14. Jamieson will thus be among the New Zealand Players in IPL 2021, as he is expected to form a pace bowling pair with Mohammed Siraj. Kyle Jamieson is new to international cricket as well and he would expect the T20 tournament to better his limited overs career.
Lockie Ferguson
1991 born New Zealand Fast Bowler came to IPL fold when he debuted for Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017. Lachlan Hammond Ferguson isn’t playing any other T20 league so far as his current career is concerned. Ferguson moved to Kolkata Knight Riders in 2019 and has featured for them in few matches since then. In the 2020 season, he showed what he was capable of in the matches he was part of and would expect this season to bring more matches for him. Ferguson will be one of the New Zealand Players in IPL 2021.
Trent Boult
1989 born New Zealand left arm pacer has played for different franchises in Indian Premier League, but off late, has become an integral part of Mumbai Indians. His pair with Jasprit Bumrah was joint highest wicket-taking pair during IPL 2020. Trent Boult would continue to be representing the New Zealand Players in IPL 2021 as well and you can expect him to be listed among the top wicket-takers too.
Kane Williamson
1990 born New Zealand batsman has been among the consistent scorers of current generation. Kane Williamson has played for Edmonton Royals in GT20 Canada and Barbados Tridents in Caribbean Premier League. The right handed stroke player scored 735 runs in IPL 2018 and 317 runs in IPL 2020. Kane is among the key New Zealand Players in IPL 2021, like all the other cricket tournament formats he plays for different teams.
Phase 2 in UAE, Changes in RCB Squad for IPL 2021 :
Due to corona crisis in India, the season was stopped post Match 29 and all the matches post match 29 were shifted out of India to be held during September-October at UAE. With the changes in season schedules, there were withdrawals and new additions to the squads. Glenn Phillips and Tim Southee would join the T20 cricket league, replacing Jofra Archer of RR and Pat Cummins of KKR. Fin Allen would withdraw and Tim David of Singapore would replace him.
There were the eight New Zealand players in IPL 2021 season in phase 1 and these two addition would make it 10. This is it for today! Hope your liked the content; don’t forget to put in your thoughts & questions as comments.
