The second leg of premier Futsal kicked off in Goa after a days break. The evening started with Local team Goa 5’s taking on Kolkata at Peddem Sports Complex. A win by either side would have taken them to the semifinal.
Goa 5’s went into the match without any marquee player as Ronaldinho had departed following his selection as the Ambassador of the Paralympics Game in Rio, his replacement another Brazilian Cafu had yet to join the squad. Playing with a handicap Kolkata managed to exploit Goa and went ahead in the first quarter itself scoring two goals. Kolkata dominated the proceedings for most of the first half and were guilty of missing a number of opportunities to extent the lead.
The second half was a different story as Goa took the match by its head and started to dominate pushing Kolkata into defensive mode, after a string of saves by Cidao, Vampeta finally managed to get it past the Kolkata goalkeeper with an acute finish into the far corner to make it 2-1. Goa’s accession continued and it was Vampeta again with 3 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter, he made it 2-2 to set up an exciting final quarter. But none of teams managed to break the deadlock and find the winning goal thus ending it in a 2-2 draw.
Mumbai 5’s v/s Chennai 5’s
Mumbai did a double on Chennai and booked their place in the semifinals. Mumbai 5’s came back from behind to score 2 goals in the final quarter to win the tie 4-3.
Mumbai opened the scoring with Foglia out muscling his opponents to score by neatly chipping the keeper. But Chennai 5’s were more than equal to the task and scored back immediately through Sean Garnier. In the second quarter Chennai extended their lead to 2-1 through goal keeper beating, net ripping goal by Romulo. But the celebration was short lived as Chennai’s star man Falcao, was subbed off owing to an injury.
Mumbai 5’s leveled the score by what can be said as one of the best goals of the tournament by Angellot. However Chennai was again quick to respond and took the lead again by a swift counter attacking move to go at 3-2 in the final quarter. Mumbai wanted something special and they got it from none other Ryan Giggs. Giggs scored the crucial goal to level the match and Foglia scored his second goal of the night to make it 4-3 in favor of Mumbai and guarantee them a semifinal place.
