Jayawardene’s runs included 34 hundreds and 50 fifties, and 15 times he remained not out in his career. His career best innings was 374 against South Africa. With these runs, Jayawardene is second among the Sri Lankan Cricket team cricketers in the list of most runs in test cricket.
8. Shivnarine Chanderpaul (West Indies)
Former West Indies Cricketer Shivnarine Chanderpaul played his test debut match in 1994 against England. Chanderpaul is 8th on the list of cricketers who have scored most test runs as he scored 11867 runs in 280 innings of 164 matches at an average of 51.37. His runs included 30 hundreds and 66 fifties, and 49 times he remained not out in his career. Chanderpaul’s career best innings was 203 not out against South Africa, in a match he made his captaincy debut, thus registering a rare record. With these runs, Chanderpaul is second among the West Indies Cricket team cricketers in the list of most runs in test cricket.
7. Brian Lara (West Indies)
Current West Indies Great Brian Charles Lara had the panache of breaking one record after another in test cricket. Lara surpassed Allan Border on the list of most test runs, almost 12 years post Border claiming this record from Sunil Gavaskar. The Trinidadian, in his test career, scored 11953 runs from 232 innings of 131 matches at an average of 52.88. Lara’s runs included 34 hundreds and 48 fifties, and 6 times he remained not out in his career. Brian Lara’s career best innings was 400 not out against England. Lara is currently 7th on this list and leads the West Indies cricketers in the list of most runs in test cricket.
6. Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka)
Former Sri Lanka Cricketer Kumar Chokshanada Sangakkara is currently 6th on the list of cricketers who have scored most test runs. Kumar, in his test career, scored 12400 runs from 233 innings of 134 test matches at an average of 57.40, as 17 times he remained not out. Sanga’s runs included 38 hundreds and 52 fifties and his career best 319 was against Bangladesh. 5. Alastair Cook (England)
Former England Opener Alastair Nathan Cook, in his test career, scored 12472 runs from 291 innings of 161 test matches at an average of 45.35. His career best was 294 against India in 2011. He is 5th on the list of cricketers who have scored most test runs and leads the English cricketers on this list. Cook’s runs included 33 hundreds and 57 fifties as he remained not out at 16 occasions. With these runs, Cook leads the England cricketers in the list of most runs in test cricket.
4. Rahul Dravid (India)

Kallis’ runs included 45 hundreds and 58 fifties, and he remained not out at 53 occasions and his career best innings was 224 against Sri Lanka. 2. Ricky Ponting (Australia)
Former Aussie Skipper Ricky Thomas Ponting is second on the list of cricketers who have scored most test runs as he scored 13378 runs in 287 innings of 168 test matches at an average of 51.85, as he remained not out at 29 occasions. Ricky’s runs included 41 hundreds and 62 fifties, and his career best 257 was against India at Melbourne. With these runs, Ponting leads the Australian cricketers in the list of most runs in test cricket.
1. Sachin Tendulkar (India)
Former Indian Cricketer and legend Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar holds the record for most ODI runs as well. Sachin scored 15921 runs in 329 innings of 200 test matches at an average of 53.78, as he remained not out at 33 occasions. Sachin’s runs included 51 hundreds and 68 fifties. Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, thus, leads the list of most test runs. His career best 248 not out was against Australia. The Indian Cricketer claimed this record from Brian Lara, also featuring on this list, in 2008.
