Today we bring you the Asian Cricketers who scored the most runs in Asia Cup 2012. The Asia Cup was played in March 2012, 7 matches were played during March 11- 22, 2012. This was the eleventh edition of the continental cricket tournament run by Asian Cricket Council and hosted by Bangladesh. Four teams were part of the Asia Cup 2012 viz. India, Bangladesh, Pakistan & Sri Lanka. Pakistan won their 2nd title at the tournament & Umar Gul led the wickets table. Here we discuss the batsmen who hit the most runs in Asia Cup 2012.
5. Nasir Jamshed (Pakistan)
Pakistan top order batsman Nasir Jamshed scored 193 runs from the 4 matches he played in the tournament with an average of 48.25 and best score of 112 coming against arch rivals India on March 18. With this run aggregate, Jamshed featured among the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2012.
Pakistan were batting first and scored 329/6. Mohammad Hafeez also scored hundred while Younis Khan scored a fifty. Despite this score, Pakistan were unable to win it as the match saw Virat Kohli special and tournament’s highest score. India won by 6 wickets.
4. Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh)
Bangladesh‘ All rounder Shakib Al Hasan scored 237 runs from the 4 matches he played in the tournament with an average of 59.25 and best score of 68 coming against Pakistan on March 22 in the tournament final. With this run aggregate, Shakib featured among the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2012. His best score came when Bangladesh was chasing a target of 237. Bangladesh fell short by 3 runs as they lost the match by 2 runs.
3. Mohammad Hafeez (Pakistan)
Pakistan Batsman Mohammad Hafeez scored 245 runs from the four matches at an average of 61.25 and best score of 105 coming against arch-rivals India in the fifth match on March 18 at Mirpur. With this run aggregate, Hafeez featured among the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2012. Pakistan made a score of 329/6 from their overs with Praveen Kumar and Ashoke Dinda picking 2 wickets each. India chased down the target as Virat Kohli scored the highest individual score of the tournament.
2. Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh)
Bangladesh‘ Opening batsman Tamim Iqbal scored 253 runs from the four matches he played in the tournament with an average of 63.25 and best score of 70 not out coming against India on on March 16 at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka. His runs would include four half-centuries and with this run aggregate, Tamim Iqbal featured among the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2012.
India batted first and they scored 289/5 with Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar scoring 114, Kohli scoring 66 and Suresh Raina scoring 51. On chase, Bangladesh reached the target in the last over with Tamim’s 70, Jahurul Islam’s 53, Nasir Hossain’s 54, Shakib Al Hasan 49 & Mushfiqur Rahim’s 46 not out. Praveen Kumar took 3/56.
1. Virat Kohli (India)
Indian Batting Mainstay Virat Kohli scored 357 runs from the three matches he played in the tournament with an average of 119 and best score of 183 coming against arch-rivals Pakistan in the fifth match on March 18. His runs would include two centuries and a fifty. With this run aggregate, Kohli led the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2012.
In his highest individual score innings, India were chasing a target of 330 after Mohammad Hafeez & Nasir Jamshed both scored tons to take Pakistan to 329/6. Younis Khan scored 52. For India, apart from Virat, Sachin Tendulkar scored 52 while Rohit Sharma scored 68.
