Mumbai: Sacked IPL commissioner Lalit Modi’s son Ruchir Modi has slipped into the Alwar District Cricket Association (ADCA), having being announced as its elected president on August 22, as said by Rajasthan Cricket Association treasurer, Pawan Goyal.
“Ruchir did not contest the election as he was nominated and elected unanimously,” Goyal further added.
However, the observation drawn from the above has paved its way for speculations, it’s seen as Modi’s attempt of getting into the Rajasthan state body, for lifting his Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) band. Since, BCCI has refused to recognise the state cricket body.
The other members of the cricket body too share the same opinions as they claim to have been kept in the dark over this election that took place ‘behind closed doors.’
Legal disputes concerned with inclusion of cricket clubs and its membership have been pending before the Registrar of Co-operatives since 2010.
“Till the Registrar of Co-Operatives does not nominate an ad-hoc committee, they cannot hold an election. If they have done it by themselves, they should better have some answers ready,” said Pawan Sharma, deputy secretary and life member, ADCA.
He further added to have not been received any notification regarding the election.
As a counter, Somendra Tiwari, Rajasthan Cricket Association secretary and the observer who is sorting the legal issues, said, “An election was held and Ruchir Kumar Modi has been unanimously nominated elected as the president.”
Alwar District Cricket Association members who happened to be Ruchir Modi’s supporters, produced copies of his election certificate which they claimed to have signed by district sports officer LR Saini, who is a government appointee.
To throw some light on the topic, Congress spokesperson Pratap Singh Khachariyawas added, “Everything that Mr Modi does in Rajasthan has the blessings of chief minister Vasundhara Raje. She even supported him despite knowing he was wanted in cases in India”.
Modi had earlier tweeted from @RuchirLModi handle on July 24 stating “Media rumours of myself heading the Rajasthan Cricket Association are completely untrue,”.
However, there have been no comments from Ruchir or his father regarding the ADCA elections.
