A SPORTSCRUNCH EXCLUSIVE
Kolkata: Lalchand Rajput, the head coach of the Afghanistan national team has played an instrumental role in them getting Test status earlier this year. From being considered as minnows, the Afghan cricketers have come a long way so far to become one of the most exciting teams in the world cricket at the moment.
But Rajput wouldn’t be able to continue doing the great work he has done with the team so far as now after they have got Test recognition, he has been asked to stay in Kabul to spend time with the boys. This isn’t possible for him and also if things are looked at from the other side, without him staying with the team, he wouldn’t be able to prepare them for the upcoming challenges. Thus, he might not be able to continue as the head coach and the reason is thus justified from both the ends.
Talking to SportsCrunch, he said, ” I said them that now we worked so well and now you’ve got Test status, they asked me to spend some time in Kabul.”
He further added saying that he had made it clear earlier that it wouldn’t be possible for him to stay at the Afghan capital.
“I said that this isn’t possible (referring to his stay in Kabul), and last time only I had said.”
But he and the Afghanistan Cricket Board haven’t yet parted ways as he says that the talks between them are still on.
He said, “That is the only thing (staying in Kabul) and we are going to talk on that and we’ll see.”
He also stated that no final decision has been taken about his future with the Afghanistan national team.
Rajput has been one of the key figures in the rise of the Afghanistan cricket team and his absence from the side would undoubtedly be a big loss. However, only time would tell as to whether both Rajput and the Afghanistan cricket board agrees to continue their future with each other.
