Kuantan: In their fourth match of the 4th Asian Champions Trophy, India beat China 9-0 today as Akashdeep Singh, Affan Yousuf, Jasjit Singh Kular each scored a brace; Rupinder Pal Singh, Nikkin Thimmaiah and Lalit Upadhyay scored once.
Starting the match on offensive, India scored their first in the 9th minute of the match through a reverse hit from Akashdeep Singh. This was the only goal from the first quarter as they didn’t let the ball loose all through the quarter. Teams went for the first break with 1-0 score in favor of India.
Coming off the break, it was Akashdeep again assisting for the second goal in the 19th minute, via Affan Yousuf who guided the ball into the bottom corner of the goal. The quarter saw two more goals via Jasjit Singh who went on to score a brace and Rupinder Pal Singh who drag flicked perfectly to score his sole goal of the match.
It was wet and slippery conditions which made the routing of Chinese team a bit difficult though India managed a 9-0 score in the end.
In the second half, the story of Indian dominance continued as India scored goal after goal; Nikkin Thimmaiah scoring in the 34th minute, Lalit Upadhyay (37′), Akashdeep Singh (39′) and Affan Yousuf (40′) to take India to 8-0 at the end of third quarter.
It was only a matter of time till the final hooter, though India didn’t leave this quarter goalless as Jasjit Singh added a second to his tally in the 51st minute. This win will boost the ranks of Indian team as their last match against Pakistan was sloppy though they won it in the end.
India will be playing against hosts Malaysia tomorrow.
