New Delhi: Former Australian batsman Mike Hussey, who played for the Chennai Super Kings in seven out of their eight seasons in the Indian Premier League would now operate as the batting coach of the franchise in the upcoming edition of the tournament.
The 42-year-old was a star performer for the men in yellow as he first played for them from 2008 to 2013 and then again turned up for them in 2015 after representing Mumbai Indians in 2014.
“I am really excited about returning to the Chennai Super Kings in a coaching capacity and working with the players to help them get the best out of themselves and also help to bring success to this great franchise,” said Hussey as quoted by CSK’s official website.
“I have so many great memories as a player and have made many wonderful friends in Chennai and now I am excited about giving back to the franchise in trying to help the next generation of CSK players.”
“It is exciting to have CSK back in the competition and I am sure the fans are very happy to have their team back on the field,” added Hussey, who was the highest run-getter in the 2013 edition of the tournament and his also referred to as, ‘Mr. Cricket’.
Chennai Super Kings, despite being banned for two seasons is one of the most successful sides in the tournament, winning two titles in the years 2010 and 2011. They also finished as the runners-up in four editions, having made it to the playoffs in all the seasons between 2008 to 2015.
“It’s really nice to have Hussey back with us in a coaching capacity since he has played for us and possesses a keen cricketing brain,” K. George John, the irector of Chennai Super Kings limited said.
“I’m sure he’ll continue to be a huge asset to the franchise,” he added further.
Chennai in the meantime have retained the services of Mahendra Singh Dhoni along with eft-hander Suresh Raina and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and would be participating in the tournament for the first time since 2015 after serving a two-year ban along with Rajasthan Royals.
