Kolkata: Rising Pune Supergiant would be heavily disappointed with their performance as a they were undone by some quality bowling by the Delhi Daredevils led by their charismatic captain Zaheer Khan. Daredevils won by 97 runs after RPS were bundled out for a paltry 108 chasing a target of 206 on Tuesday evening. Earlier it was Sanju Samson’s scintillating 102 and Chris Morris’ blitzkrieg innings of 38 from just nine balls that helped Delhi post 205 for four in their allotted 20 overs.
Earlier skipper Steven Smith was ruled out of the game and Ajinkya Rahane was handed the charge of the team. Winning the toss at the DY Patil Stadium in Pune, Rahane put in Delhi to bat first. And Delhi did well, and despite losing Aditya Tare upfront, Sanju Samson stamped his authority over the game and a brilliant cameo from all-rounder Chris Morris ensured that Delhi crossed the 200 run mark.
With 206 to get, Pune didn’t start off well as they lost the early wickets of Ajinkya Rahane and Mayank Agarwal. And this continued as wickets kept on tumbling at regular intervals as the Ajinkya Rahane led side never really looked to be in the game.
In the end, it turned out to be a one-sided affair as Pune steamrolled over Delhi comfortably by 97 runs and moved to the third position in the table after they had lost their first match.
The demons of last year came back to haunt Pune as they have now lost two out of the three games they have played and have fallen to the seventh position.
Brief scores: Delhi Daredevils 205/4 (Sanju Samson 102, Chris Morris 38*; Imran Tahir 1/24) beat Rising Pune Supergiant 108 all out in 16.1 overs (Mayank Agarwal 20, Rajat Bhatia 16; Zaheer Khan 3/20) by 97 runs.
