After a disappointing start to the Thomas Cup by the men, Indian women hammered Australia 5-0 in their opening game of Uber Cup. The brilliant Indian shuttlers cruised past the Australian team, who couldn’t even win a single game.
In the first game, the poster girl of Badminton in India, Saina Nehwal was up against H Suan-Yuchen. Saina won in the straight sets of 22-20, 21-14. It was followed by an easy 25 minute victory of PV Sindhu over Australia’s Joy Lai, as India took a 2-0 lead.
The pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa then gave India an unattainable lead of 3-0 by defeating Hsuan-Yu Wendy and Gronya Somerville 21-9, 21-15 in a match lasting 28 minutes.
SAF Games Gold medalist Ruthvika Shivani Gadde was selected as 3rd singles player for India and she didn’t disappoint, easing past Tiffany Ho 21-5, 21-11.
In the last game Sikki Reddy N and Sindhu thrashed Leanne Choo and Joy Lai in straight sets of 21-12, 21-12 and completed the 5-0 mauling of Australia.
This great win would give Indian women great boost ahead of their remaining games. India will face Germany tomorrow in the next Group D match.
