Kozhikode: With just two wins in their kitty after a staggering 10 matches, debutants Gokulam FC will eye their first consecutive win when they lock horns against Shillong Lajong at the EMS Corporation Stadium here on Sunday.
Their losing run of five consecutive games came to an end with a 1-0 victory over Chennai City in the previous encounter and coach Bino George wished his boys would carry on the momentum from here.
Lajong may have humbled surprise package Neroca FC 2-0 in the last match but that their every victory have been followed with a defeat perhaps induced George to say, “Shillong is a good team with good players, but a win is must for us.”
Despite languishing at the last position their confident has been boasted by the arrival of Musa, who George believes has “brought some stability in the team and beeming with confidence especially after that important win over southern rivals Chennai City, the I-League newbies have hopes of finishing in the top four.
“Win is very important for us in the next match against Lajong to increase our chances of finishing in the top four,” added George.
Lajong assistant coach Alison Kharsyntiew on the other looked for consistency from his side, which they have so far failed to do so. “We are not consistent,” he said. We need to work hard on that. There’s no rocket science behind that. We have to pull up our socks and push ourselves more in training sessions to rectify the mistakes.”
That they have fielded a young team in the league after the departure of may of their stars for greener pastures have added to their woes. The lack of experience of finishing games have hindered them on a couple of occasions but Kharsyntiew hoped that with time this youngstars will learn.
The return of striker Koffi from injury will however definitely boost the side and the coach added he along with Samuel who will also make a return against Gokulam will have to shoulder a lot of responsibility if Lajong are to come out winners.
