Today we talk about the highest team totals at Cricket World Cup 1987. The format of the ODI was changed from 60 over to 50 over but the runs scored by the individual batsmen and by the teams while playing in the group matches kept on increasing. The batsmen dominated the matches with high scores and low-scoring matches became rare.

5. India vs Australia
Indian bowlers couldn’t bowl as per the expectations. Kapil, Prabhakar, Binny, and Maninder had expensive bowling spells and Australian batsmen kept on scoring easy runs. Marsh along with opener Boon and Jones kept the scoreboard moving and Steve Waugh helped Australia to reach a respectable total of 270 runs.

India in reply started fiercely and looked like reaching the target easily. Apart from dashing innings of Sidhu, Srikkanth, and Gavaskar, no other Indian batsman played well. India lost in last over by 1 run. Among the five highest team totals at Cricket World Cup 1987.
4. Australia vs India
The match between the two teams probable of winning the World cup was mainly remembered because of the all-round performance of Mohammed Azharuddin who performed brilliantly with bat and ball. India scored 289 for 6 in 50 overs with contributions from Gavaskar, Sidhu and Vengsarkar. Australian fought back with a spirited reply from Boon and Waugh. Maninder Singh stuck early blows and Azharuddin wrapped the tail-enders in 49th over to beat Australia by 56 runs.

3. England vs Sri Lanka
The match between England and Sri Lanka was turned-out to be a single-sided when England won the match by 108 runs. England made a huge score of 296 runs in 50 overs with the help of Graham Gooch and Allan Knot. Arjuna Ranatunga & Ranjan Madgulle tried their best but Emburey and Hemming controlled the Srilankan batting with their spin attack. Among the five highest team totals at Cricket World Cup 1987.
2. Pakistan vs Sri Lanka
Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 113 runs in the Group B match. Salim Malik scored dashing 100 runs and helped Pakistan to score 297 in 50 overs. Sri Lanka in reply struggled as most of Srilankan batsmen failed to score except Duleep Mendis and Arjuna Ranatunga who fought back with 100 runs partnership between them. Abdul Qadir’s magical spell restricted opponents and Pakistan won comfortably. Among the five highest team totals at Cricket World Cup 1987.

1. West Indies vs Sri Lanka
The match between West Indies & Sri Lanka played at National Stadium; Karachi was the highest scoring match of the tournament. Viv Richards and Desmond Haynes added 180+ runs together. Richards scored the highest individual score of 181 in the tournament and helped his team to reach 360 for 4 in 50 overs which was the highest team total. Sri Lanka lost the match by 191.
