Thiruvananthapuram: Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar has agreed to be part of the Kerala government’s ‘Vimukthi’ campaign, aimed at creating awareness concerning the abuse of liquor and narcotic substances engulfing the people of the state.
A product of an iniative by the CPI(M)-led LDF govt. in the state. Kerala Excise Minister TP Ramakrishnan told state assembly that Tendulkar had agreed to be a part of the drive. “The state-level inauguration of the government’s anti-liquor and narcotic campaign will be held on November 20. Sachin Tendulkar, who had already agreed to be part of the drive, will participate in the inaugural function,” he added.
The cricket maestro’s name and mass influence would prove useful to positively impact and promote the campaign, Tendulkar had a discussion about it with Chief Minister, at the Secretariat in June.
The Kerala government has reportedly set up ‘anti-narcotic clubs’ with complaint boxes in over 700 colleges and 1000 schools all across the state, so far.
The drive would be implemented with the support and help of various other organisations, including volunteers of student cadet corps and national service scheme alongwith women belonging to Self Help Group ‘Kudumbashree’
Meanwhile, Tendular added on to his already gargantuan popularity, within the state since he assosciated himself with Indian Super League football team Kerala Blasters, who he is also the co-owner of.
