One Day Internationals had already seen four cricket world cups and was reduced from 60 to 50 overs. This limited overs format has sustained this change till today as there’s no further changes onto number of overs. It, though, had rain curtailed matches with lesser overs. Today we’ll see the period 1989-1994 which saw the world cup Pakistan won (1992). This was the time when 6000 ODI runs were reached for the first time. 5. Dean Jones
Dean Jones was second Australian Cricketer to 5000 ODI runs. Jones was fifth on the list of cricketers who reached earliest to 6000 ODI runs. Dean, also the second Australian Cricketer to score 6000 ODI runs, scored his 6000th run in his 157th innings of his 160th ODI match.
Jones achieved this career milestone on February 22, 1994 during an away series match at Saint George’s Park, Port Elizabeth against hosts South Africa.
Australia won the toss to decide first use of the pitch. Coming in at number 3 for the Kangaroos, Jones scored a gritty 92-ball 67 before being run out off a Jonty Rhodes’ throw. Australia scored 281/6 off their 50 overs. South Africa, in reply, were bowled out for 193 in 43 overs.

Allan Border was first Australian Cricketer to 4000 & 5000 ODI runs. Border was fourth on the list of cricketers who reached earliest to 6000 ODI runs. Border, also the first Australia Cricketer to score 6000 ODI runs, scored his 6000th run in his 229th innings of his 247th ODI match.
Allan achieved this career milestone on January 12, 1993 during a Benson & Hedges World Series match at Melbourne Cricket Ground against Pakistan.
Australia won the toss to decide first use of the pitch. Coming at number 6 for Kangaroos, Border contributed an unbeaten 20-ball 14 to 212/6 of the team. Pakistan, in reply, could reach only 180/7 from their 50 overs.

Javed Miandad was first Pakistan Cricketer to 4000 & 5000 ODI runs. Miandad was third on the list of cricketers who reached earliest to 6000 ODI runs. Javed, also the first Pakistan Cricketer to score 6000 ODI runs, scored his 6000th run in his 175th innings of his 185th ODI match.
Miandad achieved this career milestone on January 13, 1992 during a match at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium against visiting Sri Lanka.

Desmond Haynes was second West Indies Cricketer to score 5000 ODI runs. Haynes was also second on the list of cricketers who reached earliest to 6000 ODI runs. Desmond, also the second West Indies Cricketer to score 6000 ODI runs, scored his 6000th run in his 162nd innings of his 163rd ODI match.
Haynes achieved this career milestone on October 19, 1989 during a MRF World Series match at Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Ground, Rajkot against Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka won the toss to put West Indies into bat. Opening the Windies Batting, Haynes scored a 92 ball 42 in a team score of 176/9 off 50 overs. Sri Lanka chased down the target with 2.5 overs remaining.

Sir Vivian Richards was first to score 1000, 3000, 4000 & 5000 ODI runs. Richards was also first on the list of cricketers who reached earliest to 6000 ODI runs. Viv, also the first West Indies Cricketer to score 6000 ODI runs, scored his 6000th run in his 141st innings of his 156th ODI match.
Richards achieved this career milestone on January 7, 1989 during a Benson & Hedges World Series match at Brisbane Cricket Ground against Pakistan.
West Indies won the toss to put Pakistan into bat. Pakistan scored 258/7 from their quota of 50 overs. West Indies, in reply, were bowled out for 203 in 40.4 overs. Richards could only contribute a 36-ball 18.
