Lucknow: Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat after a selection trial on Saturday made it to the Indian squad for the 2018 Commonwealth Games to be held in Gold Coast, Australia.
Sakshi, who along with shuttler PV Sindhu was India’s only medal winner in the 2016 Rio Olympics won the gold at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships held in Johannesburg, South Africa earlier this month.
The other women who too are a part of the squad are Vinesh Phogat (50 kg), Babita Kumari (54 kg), Pooja Dhanda (57 kg), Divya Karan (68 kg) and Kiran (76 kg).
The selection trials were held at the Sports Authority of India Training Centre in six different weight categories. Before representing India at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, these six freestyle wrestlers would also participate in the 2018 Senior Asian Wrestling Championship, which is scheduled to be held in Bishkek, Krygyztan.
