Mumbai: India’s badminton star in Rio, PV Sindhu and male singles shuttler Ajay Jayaram reserve their respective seats in the second round of the USD 700,000 China Super Series Premier, in Fuzhou on Thursday.
Seventh seeded Sindhu, who faced various strenuous situations during her match against USA’s Beiwen Zhang, played skillfully to turn the match in her favour.The scoreboard showed 18-21 22-20 21-17 at the end of women’s singles match that lasted for an hour.
The Olympic silver medallist will next take on China’s He Bingjiao, against whom she had lost in the second round of the French Open last month.
For Jayaram also, it wasn’t an easy win. He played hard against the Hong Kong shuttler, Wei Nan in a 56-minute encounter.The Victorious scoreboard waved the following scores 20-22 21-19 21-12.
Jayaram, Who proudly stands with three Dutch Open titles, with this win, slides to the next round.Where, he will face reigning Olympic champion and two-time World champion and All England champion Chen Long of China.
However, it wasn’t a good day for Swiss Open winner H S Prannoy.He suffered a setback with the mishap scores, 17-21 19-21 presented by Qiao Bin of China in another men’s singles match.
Also, B Sai Praneeth had lost his opening round match 16-21 9-21 against Marc Zwiebler of Germany on Wednesday.
At the very start, Sindhu slashed points to take a lead with 11-7. However, the lacuna was soon covered by Zhang, dragging scores at 13-13. The American soon moved to a 15-13 and 18-15 lead before reeling off the last three points in to pocket the first game.
In the second game, Sindhu once kept the lead with herself (8-0). However, once again she squandered the advantage as Zhang clawed back to first level the scores on 16. Opponent soon lead 19-17 but the Indian ensured there was no gaffe this time. As the outcome of it, Sindhu held a slender 8-6 lead and then broke off at 9-9 to never look back.
