All the brilliance Real Madrid showed towards the end of the season could only garner them praises worldwide as the title race came to an end on the final week of the season. It was Barcelona who took it home with their fierce rivals losing out by just one point.
Barcelona took a dip last month which saw Real closing in on a 10 point lead. Real won their last 12 games but before it was late Barca were back on track winning their last 5 games courtesy solid performances by Luis Suarez. Suarez has been outstanding this season, highest goalscorer with 40 La Liga goals and 59 in all competitions.
He’s proved that La Liga is much more than just a Messi-Ronaldo show.
He’s also jointly leads the assist making chart in Spain, which means he’s been the top goal contributor in the top 5 leagues of Europe.
Despite the slip up in April and the brilliant late show by Real, it is safe to say Barcelona deserved to win the league. Barcelona led the table from start to the end and won their 24th league title. Though it didn’t come as easy as the Blaugrana would have expected before April, as the Los Blancos showed some resurgence which lasted till the last day.
Even Real head coach, the great Zinedine Zidane would admit, “Barcelona deserved to win La Liga.”
“We’re all disappointed, but with 38 matchdays played, we can’t change anything now,” said Zidane, who has won 21 of his 26 games in charge.
Both the teams still have a trophy to play for. Barcelona will play Sevilla in the finals of Copa del Rey on 22 May while Real will be facing their city rivals Atletico on the 28th in the Champions League finals. And the football lovers like us can’t be more excited…..
The winners of these are to be decided only after the matches but the world of sports lovers is going gaga over the excitement these matches will bring across.
