In the second edition of our Tokyo 2021 Summer Games series; today we talk about Fouaad Mirza, the Indian Equestrian Athlete. Tokyo Olympics are the thirty second edition of the Summer Olympic & Paralympic Games which were initially scheduled in 2020 but the global pandemic Corona got it postponed by a year almost. The rescheduled edition is planned during July 23- August 8. Here are a few things about Fouaad Mirza that you may not know about him:
Born & Family
Fouaad Mirza was born on March 6, 1992 at Bengaluru, the capital city of Karnataka State of India. Mirza’s father Dr. Hasneyn Mirza is a Veterinary Doctor specialized with horses. Fouaad is second of two sons of his parent. Horses were there since his childhood and he gradually picked the sport to excel at. This was about Fouaad Mirza’s family and personal life.
About Fouaad Mirza’s Career
Fouaad Mirza picked during his school days and would build upon it. He would go on to be part of Indian Equestrian team at the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games. He would go on to win Silver in individual eventing and along with Rakesh Kumar, Ashish Malik and Jitender Singh, Fouaad would win the team eventing silver medal at the Asian Games. In the individual eventing, he was the first Indian to achieve this feat after Raghubir Singh of 1982 Asian Games at New Delhi, India.
He trains under the German Legend Sandra Auffarth. Sandra is known for Individual Eventing Bronze and Team Eventing gold medal at the London 2012 Summer Olympics, and a Team Eventing silver at the Rio 2016 Summer Games. In addition to her Olympic Medals, she has won two World Equestrian Games gold medals (team and individual eventing) and four European Championships medals (team and individual). About Fouaad Mirza’s Rare Records
Widely known as the first Indian Equestrian Athlete to win Asian Games Silver, here are a few achievements of Fouaad Mirza:
1. The first Indian to win individual eventing silver medal at the Asian Games 2018 hosted at Jakarta, Indonesia, after Raghubir Singh who won it at the Asian Games 1982 at New Delhi.
2. In May 2021, he became the third Indian individual equestrian to qualify for the Olympic Games. First two are Indrajit Lamba at Atlanta 1996 and Imtiaz Anees at Sydney 2000.
