Mumbai: Australian cricketers have done a noble thing by helping flood victims in Sri Lanka. They helped the victims by holding a clinic and tried to bring smile on their faces. Cricketers always get the flak that they do not take initiative and are always busy in their lives.
Aussie all-rounder John Hastings and other players helped the children in Kandy’s Aranayake region, which has suffered horrific flooding and landslides earlier this year.
Aaron Finch, Glenn Maxwell, George Bailey and Nathan Lyon bucked the trend and were playing with the children.
On the eve of the final ODI against Sri Lanka on Sunday, Australian cricketers participated in a ‘Cricket Cares’ — Cricket Australia’s community action programme — clinic for 40 children and 20 parents impacted by the floods and landslides in May this year that left as many as 200 people reported dead or missing.
The torrential rains, floods, and landslides affected over 425,000 Sri Lankans and displaced 320,000 people from their homes.
The children and their families were from Aranayake- the site of the horrific landslide. All victims are residing in camps as their homes have been destroyed by the landslide.
The gesture by Aussie cricketers is a nice one and it will strengthen the ties between Australia and Sri Lanka in future.
