Nagpur: India bowled out Sri Lanka for a meagre 166 to win the second test in Nagpur by a massive margin of an innings and 239 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who was wicketless in the first test in Kolkata ended up with four wickets in the innings and a total of eight in the match, to become the fastest to reach 300 wickets in Test cricket. Ishant Sharma, who was making a comeback to the national Test team bowled with a lot of fire as made an impact on the opposition, taking a total of five wickets in the match.
Having dominated all the three days of the match, the Indian bowlers made merry against a Sri Lankan batting line-up that failed to put up any sort of resistance. Barring skipper Dinesh Chandimal (61), none of the batsmen could make any impact in the match as they eventually fell well short of the massive lead that India had got, despite some late hitting by Suranga Lakmal who scored an unbeaten 31 of 42 deliveries.
Umesh Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja ended with two wickets each. It was indeed a memorable comeback for Ishant and Rohit Sharma as the number one ranked Test side equalled it’s highest ever margin of victory.
