Today we bring you the greatest male Wimbledon Champions. Wimbledon is the oldest Grand Slam tournament in tennis. The event was started in 1877 and is now 140 years old. Wimbledon is also the only Major to be played on Grass. Its rich traditions like White Clothing, Strawberries and Cream and presence of Royalty make the tournament everybody’s delight. All tennis players dream of winning the Wimbledon trophy but few succeed to realize their dream. As Wimbledon 2019 draws near let’s take a look back at the greatest male Wimbledon Champions.

He was one of the greatest to grace the game of tennis. The Rockhampton Rocket might have added many more slams to his already impressive count of 11 if he was not banned for 7 years due to the Amateur-Professional controversy in tennis.
Laver won Wimbledon 4 times in his career despite not being able to compete for 6 years in his prime age. Had the controversy not happened this great Australian might have added to his Slam total as well as number of Wimbledon trophies won and thus features among the greatest male Wimbledon Champions.
4. Bjorn Borg

The ease with which Borg dominated the fast courts of Wimbledon and slow clay of Roland Garros continues to be an enigma in tennis even today. The Super Swede as he was famously called won 5 consecutive titles at Wimbledon from 1976 to 1980. This continues to be a record he jointly shares with Roger Federer.
Had Borg not retired at the early age of 26, he might well have increased his trophy count at SW19. His Wimbledon rivalry with John McEnroe is regarded as one of the greatest in the game of tennis. The Superstar of yesteryears is, thus, among the greatest male Wimbledon Champions.
3. Novak Djokovic

The Serbian giant has a Grand Slam count of 15 to his name. He has won 6 trophies on the grass of Wimbledon. Novak has also defeated the greatest grass court player of his generation Roger Federer twice in Wimbledon finals. This makes his achievement more impressive.
The World Number 1 is an exhibition of fitness and agility and thus features among the greatest male Wimbledon Champions.
2. Pete Sampras

Pistol Pete as he was famously called had a game perfectly suited to the quick grass courts of 1990s. His amazing serve and volley skills along with strong movement made him one of the best players on grass of Wimbledon.
Sampras won 14 Grand Slams in total and 7 of them came on the Centre Court of SW19. He held the record for most Wimbledon trophies till it was broken by Roger Federer in 2017. At his Prime on Grass Sampras was regarded as unbeatable, thus among the greatest male Wimbledon Champions.
1. Roger Federer

Ever since he gave the world a tennis shock by ousting the then King of Grass Pete Sampras in Wimbledon 2001, the Fed-express has ruled the Centre Court of SW19. The Swiss ace won his 1st Wimbledon title in 2003 and went on to win 5 consecutive trophies till 2007.
Federer again won Wimbledon in 2009 and 2012. After that it looked that the maestro has had his share of Wimbledon trophies. But in 2017 he again ended the 5 year barren-run to claim his 8th Wimbledon trophy. He is thus the most successful Wimbledon male champion with 8 trophies and among the greatest male Wimbledon Champions.
These were the top Wimbledon players of all time. These Tennis legends not only made the best use of grass court, but would also go on to become the all-time greats of Tennis. This was it for the day. Don’t forget to put in your thoughts and questions as comments.
