Another action packed weekend in the Super Boxing League saw Maratha Yoddhas make a terrific comeback to register a win in their first match of the campaign as they beat Mumbai Assassins with a margin of 10-9 in Group B. Delhi Gladiators also impressed again as they won second consecutive match of Super Boxing League to beat the struggling UP Terminators 19-0 in Group A. The other match in Group A saw Haryana Warriors open their account as they won against OPM Punjab Sultans 15-6.

The first match of the weekend was between Deepak Tanwar-led Maratha Yoddhas and Ram Singh-led Mumbai Assassins in Group B. It was the Mumbai Assassins who started the match strongly as they won the first three bouts of the night through Asif Asad Khan, Pawan Goyat and Manjit Kolekar to establish a 9-0 lead. However, the Maratha Yoddhas made a stunning comeback through captain Deepak Tanwar, Vivek Jangra and Sandeep Chhikara to beat Mumbai Assassins 10-9 on the night. The difference between the two sides was Sandeep Chhikara who beat Mumbai Assassins’ skipper Ram Singh by a Technical Knock Out in the last bout of the match to get the all-important 4 points.

Delhi Gladiators took on UP Terminators in Group A on Saturday night where it was the former who won the match in a convincing manner as they won all the six bouts in the match. Gladiators were given an early 3-0 lead by Rakesh Lohchab as he beat Terminators’ Ashish Kumar in the Feather Weight category. The lead was then extended to 6 points as Vanlalawmpuia beat Md Mostafa in an impressive fashion in the Welter Weight category to win his first match of SBL. The trend of Delhi Gladiators winning their bouts continued as Shivani Dahiya, captain Pawan Maan, Gaganpreeet Sharma and Deepak Malik, won their respective matches to give the Gladiators a 19-0 win on the night and their second win of SBL.

In another Group A encounter, it was the Haryana Warriors who went into the match needing a victory as they had lost their first game against Delhi Gladiators last weekend. However, the Warriors had to beat the OPM Punjab Sultans on Sunday night if they were to make a comeback into the league. The Warriors started the match strongly to take a 12-0 lead after three bouts as Sandeep Bhagri beat Sultans’ Amandeep Singh in Feather Weight category, Warriors’ Parmod Kumar beat Sultans’ Nikhil Bhatt by Knock Out in Welter Weight category and 19-year-old Anita Kumari beat Sultans’ Saroj Bugalia in the Super Fly category. However, the Sultans did manage to win two bouts on the night through Sagar Narwat and Sumit Rangi but it wasn’t enough for them as they trailed by 15 points.
