The current President of Mongolian Judo Association, Battulga Khaltmaa, is contesting for the Presidential elections in Mongolia. The Businessman- politician is now a leading candidate in this month’s presidential election in Mongolia.
Mongolia is a unitary sovereign state in East Asia, with just 3 million people, known as the birthplace of Genghis Khan, landlocked and located between China and Russia. The country has stood since a peaceful revolution in 1990 as a beacon of democracy.
Battulga was a member of the Mongolian National wrestling team in 1979-1990. Battulga won the world cup championship in Ulaanbaatar in 1989. Battulga was awarded an Merited Sportsmen of Mongolia in 1995, and was selected as the Chairman of Mongolian Judo Federation in 2006. Under Battulga’s leadership at the Judo Federation, Mongolian Judo got to its glory days as Judokas became Olympic Champions for the first time in history.
Apart from his exception career, he is known as one of the country’s standouts in the hotel, tourism and export industries, who sparked the vision that led to the country’s first-ever Olympic gold medal.
It was in the judo competition at the 2008 Beijing Games, Naidangiin Tuvshinbayar won gold in the men’s 100-kilogram competition. Post that, at the London Olympics Summer Games, four years later, Mr. Tuvshinbayar won silver, competing in the final amid a torn ligament in his left knee and only then flown back to Mongolia in a wheelchair— evidence of incredible courage.
Mr. Battulga Khaltmaa, who represents the Democratic Party, is a former member of parliament who also served the country as the Minister of Industry and Agriculture (2012-2014) and Minister of Roads, Transportation, Construction and Urban Development of Mongolia (2008-2012). Speaking about the elections, Battulga said, “… I am ready for the election. Mongolians will triumph.”
The election is June 26.
