Fuzhou (China): L Sanatombi Chanu of India created history, yesterday, by winning a medal in the senior division of the 1st Taolu World Cup at Fuzhou (China). Chanu, who hails from north eastern state of Manipur in India won Bronze at the World Cup.
Earlier, the first edition of Taolu World Cup started in Fuzhou, China, on November 15 and finished on November 20, 2016. Chanu had also topped in Taijiquan and Taijijian women section with 18.62 points to win two golds at the 12th South Asian Games. The South Asian Games had seen an Indian haul of 11 gold, two silver and three bronze at the Rising Sports Complex during the Wushu event.
The Chief Coach of Indian Team, Kuldeep Handoo congratulated the team and the Coach of the Indian team sent to the tournament, Mr. Ravi Prakash Tripathi and said through his social media page, Facebook, “Being Chief coach of India, I congratulate M Sachidanand, Ravi Prakash Tripathi, Rajesh Tailor and entire Wushu team for the superb performance in the World Cup.”
He also congratulated Sh. Bhupender Singh Bajwa (the President of Wushu Association of India), Sh. Suhel Ahmed (General secretary of Wushu Association of India) Sh. Manish Kacker (Sr. Vice President of Wushu Association of India).
Rising onto the national level in 2014, L Sanatombi Chanu had won 1 Gold and 1 Silver at the 23rd Senior National Wushu Championship 2014 which was scheduled during December 26-30 at Patliputra Sports Complex, Patna, Bihar. After that, L Sanatombi Chanu won a gold in the Taijiquan event during the 35th National Games 2015.
This is one of her better performances as the 27 year old Wushu player from Manipur has given reckoning to a less popular sport in India and winning a medal at the first ever Taolu World Cup is something which will take her to fair stature in the sport.
Taolu routines comprise of a continuously connected set of pre-determined techniques, choreographed according to certain principles and philosophies which incorporate techniques and stylistic principles of attack and defense. These include hand techniques, leg techniques, jumps, sweeps, stances & footwork, seizing, throwing & wrestling, balances etc.
