In an address to the Rio-bound Olympic Contingent of the country, Indian PM congratulated the Indian Sportspersons who have qualified for the Summer Olympics scheduled in August this year and wished them Good Luck for the mega event.

The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr. Modi met all the sportspersons who will be seen competing at the Rio 2016 Summer Games during August 5-21 and wished them luck.

The event which was held at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi on Monday is seen as a recognition programme by the Ministry for the largest ever Olympic Contingent, India has sent at the Summer Games. India will be sending its biggest ever contingent in the Olympic Games with more than 100 athletes having already qualified in 13 sporting disciplines. More athletes are likely to qualify in the coming days, and the Sports Ministry and the Indian Olympic Association are expecting more than 110 to represent the country in the Games. The previous highest send Olympic Contingent was 81 sent out of 83 qualifications for the 2012 Olympics in London.

This was a bid to ensure that the sportsperson know that the entire nation is behind them to cheer for the Summer Games. Many of the Rio-qualified athletes are currently training abroad and thus couldn’t be a part of the event.
