Taiwan: Indian Wushu team bagged four silver and five bronze medals at the sixth Asian Wushu Championships which ended here on Monday. With this they bettered their performances at the last version of the Championship where they won 1 Silver and 8 Bronze medals at Ho Chi Minh city in 2012.
The medalist for India were Pars Cup 2015 gold medalist L. Budhachandra Singh who lost his gold medal bout against Van Bau of Vietnam in the 56 kg category, Praveen Kumar (48 Kg), K. Arunpama Devi (60 kg), Rajinder Singh (90 kg)- All Silver and Y Santhoi Devi (52 kg), Pooja Kadian (65 kg), Vishakha Malik (70 kg), Uchit (52 kg) and Rajani Deori (75 kg)- bronze medals.
In Taolu, India’s Anjul finished at 6th and 7th in the two events he participated while Sanatombi finished at 7th place. Overall, this was the best ever performance by the Indian team at any previous edition of the Asian Championships.
Speaking about the win, the Indian Chief Coach, Kuldeep Handoo said,” It was a wonderful performance exhibited by the team and I am very thankful and congratulate Sh. Bhupender singh Bajwa (President), Sh. Manish Kacker (Vice President) and Sh.Suhel Ahmed (General Secretary) and entire Wushu Association of India for their faith and trust on me”.
Speaking about and thanking the coaches, he further added,” It was a wonderful performance ever shown by the Indian team and being Chief coach of Indian Wushu team, I also thank the other coaches (Rajesh Kumar Tailor, M Sachidananda and Ravi Prakash Tripathi) for their hard work and great team work during the competition/National coaching camp.”
Also he extended his wishes to the Indian Junior team which will be seen in action at the Junior Worlc Championships at Burgas (Bulgaria) from 27th Sept to 3rd October 2o16.
