Indian football team climbs up three spot up at 163rd in FIFA International ratings, issued by FIFA on Thursday after the SAFF Cup title triumph.

India had beaten Afghanistan 2-1 in the clash on January 3rd in Thiruvananthapuram to lift the SAFF cup for the 7th time.

In previous stages Indian team had beaten Sri Lanka (2-0) and Nepal (4-1) in group stages. They have also shown their potential in the semi-finals by beating Maldives (3-2) and progressed for the finals against Afghanistan.

All the above mentioned matches were taken into the account while calculating the ratings. The later stages matches that India played were not considered as they fall outside of the four-year period.

India occupies the 31st spot among the Asian countries with 139 points to its tally, gaining seven points from previous month.

Iran, on 43rd spot, leads the Asian countries, followed by Korea (51), Japan (53), Australia (59) and UAE (64).

The top scorer in the tournament was Khaibar Amani with four goals from Afghanistan.  Jeje Lalpekhlua and Sunil Chhetri from India scored three goals each.
