Indian Judoka Garima Chaudhary wins gold at the 2016 Commonwealth Judo Championship finals today at Port Elizabeth in South Africa.
Garima Chaudhary is the sole Judoka who represented India at the London Olympics. The 26-year-old athlete from Meerut, currently ranked 161th in the world, has one Olympic appearance also to her credits. Participating in the 63kg category, Garima continuing from after her quarter-final exit from the previous edition of the competition held at Glasgow in 2014 won the event hosted by Judo South Africa today.
Daughter of a Meerut based transporter and beauty salon owner, who was good at Kabaddi, Athletics and cricket, which her family supported wholeheartedly, She came into reckoning when she qualified for the London version of Olympic Summer Games. She is someone who trains six hours a day in three sessions which include Judo bouts, speed work, circuit training, working with weights, gym sessions, sauna, swimming and cycling up to 15 or 20 km a day.
