Transgender Athletics
Kerala is also referred to as the God’s Own Country and for the first time in India, the state is holding a different kind of athletics meet. The one day athletics meet will be held on April 28, 2017 at the central stadium. The meet will see 200 participants from across Kerala in six different games which include- sprint in 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 4×100 m relay, shot put and long jump.
This is a very nice move by the government of Kerala where the third gender is not only given a sporting recognition but also a platform to recognize their ability differently. Before the start of the event participants will be given coaching from April 25 onward so that there is no one left behind. Also, in order to avoid any major injuries this coaching and warm-up will also help. The coaching will include familiarising with games’ rules, warm up sessions, stretching, jogging and major tips on to win on the track.
Due to social stigma there are many transgenders who left the field and track to live in darkness. This is the first ray of hope for them. A proper march past will be organized to recognize these athletes and each team will consist of 19 members and a team manager. The one day gala is going to be huge in terms of recognition of transgender.
This is a very effective move by the government of Kerala and wish that they get more crowd support to make this event as a national athletics transgender meet. Lets cheer them for making and breaking records and getting due recognition.
