Delhi Acers enter finals defeating Chennai Smashers 4-3 at PBL 2016

Delhi Acers who met Chennai Smashers in the first semi-final clash of the Star Sports Premier Badminton League will proceed to the Finale scheduled on 17th January 2016 in New Delhi as they defeated Chennai based franchise team 4-3.

It was a tough encounter between the two teams, not only nail biting but left many breathless and in awe of the players from both the teams as each one showed grit, power and determination for a victory in one’s name and it was Tommy Sugiarto in the last match who earn his team the crucial 2 points and the ticket to Delhi. Delhi Acers’ Koo Keat Kien and Tan Boon Heong who took the first game against Chennai’s Pranaav Chopra and Chris Adcock. With the win Delhi Acers opened their account 1-0 on the scoreboard.

Chennai Smashers needed a win in the second match to equalize but Ajay Jayaram of Delhi Acers made it sure in the end that he dint any point to Chennai from this match. And the scorecard read 2-0 in favor of Delhi Acers.

The third match got some cheers for Chennai Smashers as Chris Adcock and Pia Zebadiah won the match against Gabrielle Adcock and Koo Keat Kien. Scorecard had some inroads from Chennai though still tilted in favor of Acers 2-1. The fourth match was trump match for Chennai Smashers as they fielded PV Sindhu in the match and Sindhu dint allow any gains to Delhi from this match. Scorecard was updated to 3-2 in favor of Chennai Smashers.

However to lead to finals of the tournament, Delhi Acers needed to win the last match which was their trump match of the day. A win for Delhi meant they get two points as it was their Trump and they proceed to the Finals but a win for Smashers meant they get a point and a point gets deducted from the Acers account, creating a path for them to towards the Finale. And Tommy Sugiarto of Delhi Acers dint disappoint his team as he won the match 15-11, 15-14 against Brice Leverdez to make it 4-3 in favor of Delhi Acers. The presentation ceremony saw more excitement as Brice Leverdez of Chennai Smashers won the fastest Smash of the Day (Male) with speed of 413 KMPH, while PV Sindhu got the female version of same award with a speed of 349 KMPH. The longest rally of the day went to Tommy Sugiarto of Delhi Acers who rallied 65 shots against Brice Leverdez and the most valuable player’s award went to Tommy Sugiarto of Delhi Acers for his performance at the trump match which was decider match of the day.

With this win Delhi Acers became the first team to race to the final of this years Star Sports Premier Badminton League and will play the winner of the semifinal clash which is scheduled on January 15, 2016. A detailed scorecard is shown below:
