Martin Guptill never assumed that his record for fastest T20 international 50 runs off 19 balls will be broken just moments later in the same match. Colin Munro who not only broke Guptill’s record but also threatened India’s Yuvraj Singh’s record of fastest 12 balls 50 in international T20 cricket.
After coming to the crease on Guptill’s dismissal on 63 runs, Colin Munro was on fire. He never stopped his blade once and smashed every bowler round the Eden Park. During his innings he hit 7-sixes and 1-four. His 14-balls 50 will be remembered as one of the best innings ever in T20 internationals. It is the second fastest half century in a T20.
In the first half of the match Grant Elliott’s 4-22 restricted guests on 142-8. Later they were not in the match single time. The partnership between Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson for the first wicket ended with Guptill’s return on the score of 89-1. Colin ended the match as well the series in fashion with a six taking the teams score to 147-1 on the last ball of 10th over. It was an easy nine wicket win over Sri-Lanka.
