India’s preparations for the upcoming Davis Cup tie against Spain suffered another blow when Rohan Bopanna pulling out of the Davis Cup World Group Play-off tie, on grounds of knee injury that according to him happened during the US Open.
Sumit Nagal, who was earlier named as a reserve in the Indian side, will now debut for India at this all important play-off tie.
Bopanna has informed the AITA’s chairman of selection committee about the development and after accepting his request, the committee decided to include Sumit Nagal in the four playing members of the team for the tie.
This is yet another setback to a team which is without their top players such as Yuki Bhambri and Somdev Devvarman, also down with injuries.
On the contrary, Spain are coming full strength, led by 14-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal. The other key members of the Spanish team are World No.13 David Ferrer and doubles specialists Feliciano Lopez and Marc Lopez.
